What to brew in Brunei ?

After safely touched down Miri, Sarawak. When in Rome, do as the Romans do. Paid a visit to Tanjung Lobang beach and felt the breeze. Enjoyed lunch at one of the seaside restaurant name Marina Bay seafood Restaurant, which easily distinguished with their sea horse landmark.

Photo below perhaps is Miri most important historical monument -- the Grand Old Lady on Canadian Hill. Malaysia's first inland oil drilling platform. Struck oil on 22/12/1910. Next to it is a Petroleum Museum which I suspect might qualify as first unmanned museum because I can walked in and out without seeing a single soul.

Continue my journey by car to enter Brunei, an oil rich country. People are generally content here as oil pays for everything:- free healthcare, education, no income tax, interest-free housing loans, cheap cars and cheap fuel. Heaven on earth? Not for drunkard, because it's alcohol free.

Brunei Oil town - Seria
What to see?
Below is an arch symbolises the flow of crude oil from beneath the earth to the surface. This was build while achieved production of billionth barrel on 18/7/1991. Also featured below is Oil and Gas discovery centre. That basically is it for place of attractions for this Seria town, are you overwhelmed?

There are very few cities that you could do justice to in one day, am I lucky to find one? Now entering Bandar Sri Begawan. As a tourist, landmarks that will catch my eyes were mosque and another mosque, with glistering golden domes, there are saying all that glitters is not golds but this is real gold don't play-play.

Arguably, Empire Hotel and country club might be the only attraction in Brunei, this overlooking south china sea seven star resort hotel is extravagant, constructed with finest Italian marble, Baccarat, Murano glass, Swarovski crystals and also lot of gold around.

You will feel like reading a wrong blog if you didn't see me writing about food. Here present to you Lemongrass Thai restaurant, offer quite authentic Thai food, be it pad thai, my favorite thai fish cake(Tod Man Pla) or tom yum kum, the taste absolutely not 'yumkum' at all.

It might sound strange to sample Thai food at Brunei, but no one can fault us because can hardly identify what can consider as authentic local food, however chance upon one meal call Ambuyat, give it a try, it looks like glue, smell like glue and taste like glue, so I suspect in other country they may use it as glue.

Don't be despair though, this I-Lotus restaurant can be your savior if you miss Chinese food or Dim sum. The quality is definitely above average.

Courtesy from Toyota's showroom, fulfilling their CSR? Nonetheless add some color to the night during festival time for this otherwise mundane capital city.

After completed touring all this places. Ready for a chicken run? :)

Penang -- Ho Chiak!

No doubt Penang is famous of their hawker fare ... when you ask different people they will have different take on favorite places to eat, since there is no ISO standard for taste and no reward for the debate's winner, my uphold spirit is to just enjoy the food wherever it is, let the food do the talking, never try never know, sometimes you hit good food, sometimes you hit bad one, that's part of the thrill for food hunting, if wanna be safe might as well eat KFC, McDonald or ask for pizza delivery ... and for the wise readers just view the pictures on your comfort seat wherever I bring you to :)

One place I would recommend if and only if :-
i) you are seeking value for money tasty hawker food
ii) your priority is to pacify your taste bud rather than ambience to satisfy your ego
-: then Batu Lanchang food court is a nice fit. Especially, the award winning Char Koey Kak and also one of a kind fresh fish pasembor.

I would agree if you never been to Kek Lok Si, your Penang trip is incomplete. However, talking about famous food within that same vicinity of Air Hitam, beside assam laksa another popular food should be the duck Kuey Chap.

Add to the long list of dessert one must savour in Penang is the ABC, personally I like it better if added with banana, makes it all the pleasurable. Also not to be missed is the Mr lobak-lobak, it's bombastic also fantastic with that little meat under a little small stick complement with good sauce to dip = Boomz!

Medan ... selera-nya

Fact: Medan -- 3rd largest city in Indonesia after Jakarta and Surabaya.

Though my stopover at Medan was just a short one, however I think their food is still worth mentioning, wider range than I expected hence drew a pleasant surprise.

Let's start from an eatery known as Mie Hock Seng with local specialty noodle Medan's Hokkien Mee, the taste is unique but a tad salty.

Address:

Jl Jend A Yani V No.17 (Sp. Jl Kumango)
Medan 20111
Tel: 0812 6011 090 / 061 7700 1090

Only eat and without walking is not that healthy, here show you around a heritage mansion of a respected Hakka entrepreneur and also founding father of Medan -- Tjong A Fie(1859-1921). This mansion is quite similar to his tycoon relative Cheong Fatt Tze mansion in Penang.

Seafood at RM Cemara Asri, I'm loving it, how could you resist?

Surprise discovery of a big Buddha temple -- Maha Vihara Maitreya opened since 21/8/2008
Address:
Jln Cemara Boulevard Utara No. 8
Komplek Perumahan Cemara Asri
Medan, Sumatera Utara, Indonesia

merely from the size of it seems like no lack of Buddhist devotee here ... Namo Amitabha

a view of Brastagi's market which is about 2 hours drive from Medan

Wanna more? See what are available during supper at one of the night food street named Semarang and also not to forget the delicious porridge buffet offered at a local hotel named Hotel Grand Angkasa ... In conclusion, availability of good food is not a problem here but capacity of your stomach is, be warned :)

If you wonder what to bring home as Souvenir from Medan, you have the choice of :-
  • Bika Ambon a kind of honey combed cake with various flavor i.e. pandan.
  • Kueh Lapis (layered cake)
  • Marquisa (passion fruit) syrup

Hope to be able to update with more information, but till my revisit :D ...

20090801 Super Band's KL station

Yes it's not often that I want to attend a concert but it's also not often to be able to kill four birds with one stone either. So this concert of Super Band 纵贯线 which consist of fab four:

1)David Lo Ta-yu
2)Jonathan Lee Tsung Sheng
3)Chau WaKin(Emil Chow)
4)A-Yue (Chang Chen-yue)
convinced me that I have to attend before they meet Michael Jackson, more so when I knew I will have no problem to sing along.

KL is their 11th stop to be exact. Though official starting time stated as 8pm, the concert was not started until 830pm not after audiences started making noise, that's also by a local singer Suki, after which the real show kicked off by a talented wit ...

After the songs can see him wipe off 'moisture' from his right eye, was it tear or sweat? Definitely not rain drop.

Next followed by a guy in the team that I know least about and he also spoke the least ... i.e.

2. Rock Star

This was also the time that I noticed many making their trip to toilet :). Either coincident or rock is not their cup of tea.

Next come the unique voice with cheerful personality

Vintage and cool

You are lucky you can watch the medley here without paying a single cent, the stage set up in KL also very similar with this at Taipei.

Baby
9. 再见
Encho

Not sure because he is the captain hence 40% of the selected songs were from Lo Ta-Yu?

Below is sample of their new song '亡命之徒' sang at Singapore, meaningful lyric as well.

It's worth watching, the full house crowds might have shared the same sentiment. The concert ended around 1110pm. If I lamented not fully satisfied also mainly because there are simply too many 耳熟能祥 good songs from these singers not played here and to be picky the sound system not that 'earth shattering' at where we sat, having said so I do understand it's impossible to squeeze all their songs in a concert, unless snake can swallow an elephant right? :)
As if the economy depression not hit you hard enough, their new album is releasing soon, will the concert dvd follow next?
